This piece was a commissioned project to paint an spirit animal portrait for the daughter of a long time client.
Birds are one of my favorite subjects to paint. They represent joy, freedom, transcendence and divinity.
The Lilac Breasted Roller is the national bird of Kenya. They are known for being clever, brave, aggressive and good hunters. They are the tallest of roller bird species and their plumage consists of 8 different colors.
