My Mother the Moon

Oil paint, pencil, and paper mache on framed canvas / 14”x14”x2½” / 2011 (NFS)

My mother had an affinity for the moon…always yearning for the light…wanting to fly away…to be free of the dark.

This piece is a dedication to my mother who passed away January 5, 2000. She taught me to love the natural world and the road trips we would take. She also battled depression most of her life. These road trips were one of the ways she coped with her crushing loneliness. She would always comment that as long as she knew she could get into her car or motor home and drive to some beautiful national park, she would be okay.

May she be joyfully exploring some place beautiful and peaceful now.
